I’m not good at brown bagging it to my day job, in fact I downright suck at it. I’ve done two, maybe three days in a row of home lunch but never a whole week. I start off with good intentions, a cute lunch bag and a stocked fridge but somehow I still go astray. Fortunately, I have plenty of ono options to satisfy my midday cravings.
Down To Earth – this health food mecca serves one of my favorites, the acai bowl (acai blended with apple juice, topped with bananas & granola). Their salad bar is also worth noting.
Zippys – chili, rice, cheese & onions, nuff said. Oh yeah, don’t forget the tabasco.
Genki Sushi – the spicy poke nigiri is worth the drive to Maui Mall.
Bale – the pate & pickled veggies sandwich on French bread hits the spot.
Alive & Well – so hard to choose here. The enchilada bake, ahi cake or trio of salads are some of my favorites. They’ve also got a good selection of raw foods and a smoked marlin dip that’s addicting (just grab some crackers from their grocery section).
If someone from Honolulu is visiting, my favorite place to take them for local food is Sam Sato’s. Cheeseburger deluxe with ridged fries topped with ketchup & mayo/mustard. A side of dry noodles to share.
For special occasions, Cafe O Lei at the Dunes is the #1 choice, you can’t go wrong with the macadamia nut crusted chicken or the caesar salad.
What’s your favorite Maui lunch spot?
