I’ve been bitten by the wanderlust bug…
At the beginning of 2012, I made the decision to remain on Maui for the entire year as I had overspent on traveling and moving costs in 2010/2011. I kept that promise, taking just one weekend jaunt to Kauai as a guest of my boyfriend. As we approach the end of the year, I’m feeling the urge to leave on a jet plane.
2013 will bring a week long trip to Oahu to visit my sister, wander museums and eat ono Japanese cuisine. I may hop over to the mainland too but I’m still undecided as to where and when. Beyond 2013, I dream of one day having the flexibility to take a longer trip or two to somewhere that scares me, a place I couldn’t imagine myself living until now. Rather than speeding through as a tourist, I’d like to live as a resident does for at least a month, in a city or country that takes me out of my comfort zone. Some of the places I’d love to immerse myself are Italy or Australia. I also dream of places in the US, New York City or even Seattle/San Juan Islands.
Do you have wanderlust? Here’s a few of my recommendations to fuel that fire right here at home:
Jen of JenKakio is a spirited blogger in Honolulu who writes about entertainment, food and her travels through Europe.
Holly Becker is an American design blogger and author who lives in Germany. You can visit her blog about her expat life, Haus Maus, or her popular design blog, Decor8. One of the reasons I was drawn to Holly’s blog years ago is her different perspective and original content on design and interiors due to the influence of her life in Europe.
Jodi of Legal Nomads is a former NYC attorney who now travels the world writing, taking gorgeous photos and eating. Her blog is mouth watering and envy inducing in so many ways.
Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom is a designer and mother of six living in a farmhouse in the French Countryside. Like Holly, her site is design focused and isn’t a travel blog. However, she also has a different perspective and features artisans and designers I wouldn’t normally be exposed to and she also posts lovely shots of French architecture and her family outings.
Natalie Sisson, The Suitcase Entrepreneur, interviews life travelers in her podcast. Both Natalie and her interview subjects live a lifestyle of travel and earn their keep with a business or occupation they can do from anywhere with an internet connection.
Gogobot is a social media app where you can snap shots and frame as postcards to share with your community. You can also plan your activities and dining for trips and read or write reviews.
