Today is Small Business Saturday, a movement started by American Express to support the small business owners that make our communities special. Locally owned unique bakeries, restaurants and shops give our towns character and support our economy. Shop small and support a local business today.
See a roundup of a few of my favorite local businesses on Maui after the jump. Please add your favorites in the comments below! I’m not as familiar with the west side so Lahaina lovers, please chime in.
Maui Specialty Chocolates …Do you like chocolate? Do you like mochi? Now put the two together. Ok, nuff said.
Broke Da Mouth Cookie Company…They may call themselves the cookie company and their cookies are onolicious but wait until you try their cakes. The best I’ve ever had.
Home Maid Bakery…I’m not a fan of the azuki bean so I’ve always loved the variety of fillings in the light flaky manju from Home Maid. Sweet potato and apple are my poison, pick up some peanut butter mochi while you’re at it.
Alive and Well…Pick up a salad trio plate or smoked marlin dip when you need a break from shopping or walk through this health emporium selecting items for the perfect gift basket. Delicious crackers, gluten free cookies, fresh produce, kale chips, beautiful blue glass water bottles and stainless kau kau tins. You can also stock up on your probiotics and vitamin needs while you’re there.
Maui Sporting Goods on N. Market in Wailuku… The knowledgeable staff can help you find the perfect gift for the diver and fisherman you love.
Hi Tech Maui…Boards, surf/skate/SUP/bodyboard gear and a great apparel and slippas selection.
Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport…They’ve got you covered for paddle/kite/surf/wind gear plus shades, backpacks and clothing.
Nuage Bleu…This Paia boutique has the best contemporary women’s apparel for your Maui life including Fighting Eel, Susanna Monaco, Paige Denim and Linea Pelle. Their jewelry selection is one of the best on the island including an assortment of elegant hand made pieces by Maui artists.
Indigo…Also in Paia, they have the best gifts for the home, beautiful duvet covers, footrests and drawer pulls. Caftans, jewelry and bikinis too. All designed by the owners, Daniel and Caramiya.
Alice in Hulaland…This store definitely marches to the beat of their own drum. Cool Ts, cargos, hats, jewelry and a big selection of Haviana slippas for both men and women.
Bohemia Boutique…This Market Street consignment store is always chock full of evening wear as well as casual. You’ll find the perfect look for your holiday party here.
Maui Hands…Four locations, 300 fine artists and artisans from Hawaii, many of which are from Maui. Paintings, jewelry, pottery, glass objects, woodworking and more.
Maui Tropix…I love the simple graphic Maui Built Ts and tanks from this surf shop which was born on 1977 and has multiple locations throughout the island.
Nest…A home accessories and furniture treasure chest at the beginning of Piillani Highway, you’ll also find a wide assortment of gift items including decor books, tchotchkes, cool wordy vintage signs/letters and jewelry.
I haven’t personally visited LeRu Atelier but heard about this shop on Front Street via twitter, checked out her site and blog (great casual sexy dresses). I’m definitely interested in checking it out the next time I’m on the west side.
Happy Small Business Saturday!
