I discovered La Jolie Maison by accident. As usual, I was lost (iPhone maps does not work in that niche of Kihei!), looking for Kihei Charter School to view Pacific Whale Foundation’s presentation of the documentary, “Tapped”. I saw a giant Buddha statue in a window and vowed to return later during store hours.
I was not disappointed. This gem is a consignor of quality furniture and home accessories. In addition to preloved items, there are wonderful new accessories, white linens, jewelry and gift items. A portion of the store is also devoted to art. What I really love is the selection extends well beyond the much used tropical or Asian theme which is dominant in most furniture stores on Maui. In addition to beautiful Chinese armoires and Buddha statues, there is a large selection of hollywood regency pieces, shabby chic and the occasional item with a mid century modern feel. One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is to check out what’s new, which is exactly what I did a few weekends ago.
Gorgeous headboard for a king sized bed, this is the type of piece that tempts me to redo my entire bedroom. I would use this with crisp white bed linens.
This ottoman is huge! I’m not normally a fan of animal print (for furniture… ballet flats and scarves are a whole other story). But this was gorgeous, would be great in lieu of a coffee table (the top was square shaped). I know my picture cut off a bit but if you look closely at the top of the legs, you can see carved elephant heads & trunks.
I’d use this as a standing desk because it’s really tall. There is a whole movement now to stand while you are at your computer to reduce strain on the back and neck. Would also make a nice cash/wrap area for a boutique or a reception desk for a lounge.
The top pic is an ornate cabinet and the bottom pic is a closeup of the doors to the top of the cabinet. This would be fantastic in a dining room (white china on top, linens, platters & silverware in drawers) or in a bedroom (collectibles/books on top, store clothing in drawers).
I could see this repurposed with a closet rod on the top section instead of shelves for baby clothes.
Last but not least, this little beauty came home with me, comes apart, four stacking compartments with a cover. I have it on my desk to store flash drives, paper clips and other small items.
