It’s my birthday and I’ll blog if I want to…
Started my birthday off right this morning with the #3 from Kihei Caffe, the Biersch Mueslix, granola and oats topped with half and half, raisins, dried cranberries and brown sugar. Yum…so so ono. Mom took me out to breakfast and we decided to try a place we hadn’t been before. When I googled best Kihei breakfast, Kihei Caffe popped up as “The Best Maui Breakfast” six years in a row by various Maui publications. It’s a hole in the wall joint at Kihei Kalama village that I had driven past time and time again, saw the filled tables outside but had never ventured in. We thoroughly enjoyed the generous portions, variety and excellent customer service. I also ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy on the side which tasted homemade and very mainland style. Since I’m trying to lose weight, I just took a few bites to sample for future reference (it’s not easy to find good biscuits and gravy in Hawaii) and brought the leftovers home for da high metabolism construction worker BF to finish off. Mom and I reminisced about the time she took me to Ohio when I was seven and we arrived to a kitchen table (possibly at Auntie Marilyn’s house) filled with all types of cheese and homemade biscuits and gravy.
Speaking of ono grindz (translation – delicious food that you just want to gobble up), I had dinner with friends at Kō at the Fairmont Kea Lani on Saturday. I loved the food and the atmosphere (open air and a great spot to watch the sunset). Kō’s menu is inspired by the plantation era and the melting pot of Hawaii culture including Hawaiian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino cuisine. The food is made from fresh ingredients and the menu has a wide variety of healthy choices including macrobiotic, vegan, raw, sugar balance and heart healthy options.
The great thing about having folks that don’t like to throw anything away is the unexpected antique and vintage discoveries! Mom and dad are having some work done including bamboo flooring so quite a few things have been relocated to the rec room. As I was walking by a shelf this morning, I saw a familiar blue round container with a handle on top. I opened it up and it was all my hula 45s and top 40 hits from the 80s in singles from my rotten teenager years…Reo Speedwagon, The Cover Girls, Taylor Dayne, J. Geils Band and The Cars. What a great find! I danced hula with Mrs. Vaught from the age of four to thirteen including live performances. Unfortunately, I don’t remember any of my hula moves so I wouldn’t describe myself as a hula dancer.
The maxi skirt obsession continues…I love this Crochet Tiered Maxi by Inc from Macy’s petite section. Unlike other maxis with a similar design, this skirt is made with a jersey knit mixed with crochet (rather than a stiff cotton) so it is flattering and super comfy. I also love the taupe grey color (one of my favorite neutrals). It also comes in Women’s sizes and black or white.
I slept the day away yesterday. I did go to the office for a few hours in the morning but came home by lunchtime, curled up in bed with White Collar on the apple tv and promptly passed out.
I was lax about exercising this past week. I’m on vacay all of this week so will take that opportunity of TIME to get organized in the kitchen and will exercise each day.
I did not spell and grammer check this post.
Have a great week everyone!! Anything fun planned?
