Aloha! How was your weekend? Mine was fun and productive. I’m enjoying a clean house and a full tummy. The highlight of my weekend was my first visit to the Annual Ag Fest at the Maui Tropical Plantation.
The Ag Fest was a blast! I can’t believe I was too lazy to go last year because it is a really fun event. Live music, perfect weather, ono food booths, a farmer’s market and really cute Ts by Maui Thing, what’s not to like? I bought tickets for the Grand Taste Education event which included 12 small plate tastings from local chef and farmer pairings. My favorite dishes were the porchetta mini slider by Chef Marc McDowell of the Makena Beach & Golf Resort and rancher David Fitch of Malama Farm and the ube macapuno ice cream (sweet potato with coconut) by Chef Jojo Vasquez of the Banyan Tree Restaurant and farmer Alika Atay of Maui Sweet Potato Company. What Okinawan girl isn’t gonna love sweet potato ice cream? These dishes also won the #1 and #2 fan favorite spots, respectively. The Grand Taste Education event was presented by the Maui County Farm Bureau in partnership with Slow Food Maui. For more photos of the Ag Fest and contest results, see Maui Now.
This weekend I had planned to prepare my floor plan and take pictures of my small cool space for Apartment Therapy’s Small Cool Contest. So I cleaned the joint, agonized over vignettes and charged the camera. I’ve since had a change of heart, I won’t be entering the contest this year. My space is ready but my photographer (me!) isn’t. My space is really dark; I’ve got a ton of huge windows with a four foot overhang. The overhang keeps this place cool, literally, but doesn’t do much for natural light. I think I’ll take much better pics in 2013 after I’ve had more experience managing artificial lighting and have also added a wide angle lens to my collection (it was very difficult for me to portray how the space was designed in a few shots with my current lens).
Here’s a peek at my home (shadows, blurriness and all!). Eat, lounge, sleep and blog. I hope Holly Becker of Decor 8 doesn’t check out this post because that mood board is a disorganized mess and she is the queen of beautiful mood boards (she even teaches classes!).
I realized I never wrapped up March Photo A Day. Here’s a final roundup.
Day 28 – Trash, I’m a little addicted to the flatbread and apple green smoothies from Jamba Juice.
Day 29 – Feet, My Bernardo flat sandals bought from Nuage Bleu in Paia a few years ago.
Day 30 – Toy, I’ll never be too old for cheerful and kawaii toys.
Day 31 – Where I relax, Wailea Beach
I will be participating in April’s Photo A Day but only when I really dig the prompt.
I have to check that appliances are unplugged or off about ten times before I feel comfortable leaving the house to go to work.
I’m addicted to coffee, again. I’m even considering buying a CBTL pod machine so I can fuel this addiction at home without having to drive on the weekends. I once spent an entire year caffeine free and have been known to share how great I felt off caffeine with anyone who would listen. Stories about bounding out of bed in the morning, grogginess a thing of the past.
I spent way too much money this month.
Have a great week everyone! I’d love to hear about your weekend…
