Did you see the recent Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episode when they went on vacay to Lanai? I generally don’t like to judge what other women wear but have to admit it made me cringe to see high end designer heels on the beach and pool side, especially in Hawaii. The sexiest beach look is casual, little or no makeup, messy hair and slippas…
In Hawaii, we don’t wear flip flops or thongs (well, not on our feet anyway). We wear slippas. We grew up wearing rubba slippas, the perfect footwear for our humid weather and easy to take off before we enter someone’s home (most households here don’t wear shoes indoors). I have at least ten pairs of slippas. One in my car, my gym bag, at the office, at each door of my home. A clean pair for indoors since the hardwood floor can make me feet ache if I’m on it barefoot the whole day. I like to keep it simple but do enjoy a little bling or an extra special touch.
I have a favorite pair that is very similar to these black crystal embellished beauties by Diamonte, in the classic black rubba slippa shape and strap that we grew up with.
Flipside does custom sand imprint slippas! So cute and fun, these would make a great bridesmaid gift for a beach wedding.
Havaianas are my favorite slippa brand. Made in Brazil, they are so comfortable and flattering. Add a Swarovski crystal or two for just the right amount of sparkle. Pirates and Princesses offer a variety of colors, strap styles and prints to choose from.

On Maui, you can find Havaianas at Alice in Hulaland in Paia or at Sandal Tree in Wailea. The Havaianas site also has a huge selection, including limited edition pairs (I confess that I still haven’t fully recovered from the realization that I had completely overlooked their collaboration with Missoni, read about it a month after everyone else had snatched up every last pair).
