Have you ever visited your local zoo at night? One Valentine’s Day years ago, the ex pup-daddy and I decided we didn’t want to fight the fine dining crowds. So, we opted for a tour of the Honolulu Zoo complete with champagne, strawberries and discussions on mating habits. Touring the zoo at night is an entirely different experience than a day trip because certain animals are nocturnal, like the awe-inspiring hippo. If you visit during the day, you may get to see the top of a hippo’s back peeking out of the water but that night, our guide went to the top of the exhibit and tossed apples in and we got to see the hippo leap out of the water with its tremendous jaw wide open, it was incredible. I’m happy to see many etsy sellers are sharing the hippo love…
Define Your Space with this adorable hippo and bird wall vinyl from the etsy shop by the same name. Perfect for a baby girl’s room.
Vintage lovers will adore this 1959 Zoo Line wooden hippo sold by Mister True. His jaw opens up to reveal a little nook for storage, the perfect quirky desktop decoration.
I love this hippo art print for a bright white kitchen with a 50’s retro sensibility complete with brightly colored accessories and linens (I’m thinking with a lime Kitchen Aid on the counter). You can purchase this 8X10 at Wild Life Prints.
We can keep calm and carry on or we can up that positivity notch by a hundred and love hippos too…from Keep Calm & Stay Gold.
