How was your weekend? I spent my Saturday at the Maui Fair…
The calm before the crowds…I was working a three hour shift at my day job’s booth, so I was allowed early access. It was eerily peaceful to walk through the fair while all the rides remained perfectly still as Maui families, couples and teens waited patiently outside the gates.
One of my favorite parts of the fair is the photography contest. I hope to enter one day, maybe in 2013! I loved this 1st place photo in the youth division by Maui High School’s Shantel Longboy.
The keiki’s art display always brings a smile to my face.
After my shift ended da BF arrived with an appetite so we made our way to the packed food booths. I enjoyed a pastele and gondule rice plate while da BF had pork adobo. The frosty pog was super yummy (passion orange guava juice made into a sherbet slushie). If I wasn’t a small eater I would’ve also tried the Hawaiian plate, flying saucer, banana lumpia and poi mochi.
The fair wouldn’t be the fair without kitschy stuff to buy. The popular item this year was marshmallow shooters made out of pvc pipe and painted with a camouflage print.
The tech teens were in full force with their robotic competition. Once again you could view prohibited species (lizards, snakes and coqui frogs). Orchidland was as gorgeous as ever. Games, rides, horticulture and livestock rounded out the mix. I also saw the cutest keiki in full pink tutu regalia meeting Dora the Explorer. The fair had something for everyone.
If you weren’t a MauiShopGirl reader at this time last year, you may have missed…
