I’ve fallen madly in love with a small appliance. It brings me great joy to turn her on each and every morning. What was that, what’d you say? No! Not that small appliance! Get your mind out of the gutter, puh-lease. If you must, get it out of your system and go bake some cookies because this is not that kind of blog. I’m in love with my Nespresso…
I like to call her Nessie for short and yes, I’m 100% certain she’s a girl. She’s so petite, pretty, efficient and organized. Before I met Nessie, I hooked up with a CBTL in Wailea and the coffee was yummy but yet I hesitated to take the plunge and take him back to my place (yes, CBTL is a him). He takes up more room and likes his logo up front and personal. I like a gal who doesn’t need to flash her labels all over the place (let’s leave the screaming logos to LV and Coach, shall we). Well, there’s a reason for everything and that reason was Nessie and I were meant to be. She does just one thing and does it extremely well. Fill up her reservoir, pop in the cute little pod, press expresso or lungo and woila! A perfect expresso, every time. Nessie, the frother and I make the perfect threesome. We make beautiful cappuccinos together. This weekend, we are really gonna party…macchiato anyone?
As I test drove different at home expresso makers, I enjoyed the taste of both the CBTL Kaldi and the Nespresso brews but while I agonized over the CBTL, I immediately knew I wanted the Nespresso. The CBTL does have the option to make an American style drip as well as expresso/lungo but I decided what I really wanted was an expresso machine. The Nespresso also fits in beautifully with my kitchen aesthetic. Since I live in a studio like space, appearance and size can be just as important as performance.
If you’d like to do your own taste test, head to Macy’s at Queen Kaahumanu Center for the Nespresso or CBTL’s Wailea location (located facing the parking, next to the Sunglass Hut). Both machines take their own specific pods. Nespresso pods can be ordered online while the CBTL pods are available online or at any The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf cafe.
The Nespresso Citiz D110 model is pictured above and was purchased from Amazon. Macy’s at Kaahumanu sells the Citiz C110 which is very similar except the spout is more of a contemporary shape, I preferred the D110 for its retro inspired spout. There are a variety of other models available including a combination maker/frother.
