I’m sad it’s over, I love weekends. This weekend, I did feel a social media break was due so I went “dark” (well not 100% as I just couldn’t resist a few random facebook comments on a “is photography art?” debate and snapping some shots via instagram). Here’s how my almost social media free weekend went…
On Saturday I worked half a day at the day job, then headed to Walmart to look at blenders (try to stay awake ok, I promise it gets better). I walked out with no blender (I have a little known disorder, UpGradeItis…when you can’t make a purchase decision on a Honda because what you really want is a Porsche…in this case, the Porsche is the creme de la creme of blenders, the Vitamix, which cost about 400 smoothies). I did walk out with a bag of large Valentine conversation hearts after standing in line for 15 minutes (it’s amazing what lengths bloggers will go to for cool photo props).
While doing laundry and catching up on The Vampire Diaries (team Damon), I browsed through my underutilized cookbook collection to plan for this week’s expand my homemade eat and drink horizons 2012 challenge. I started with a lovely book, Antojitos, but decided everything looked like too much work (it’s not a reflection on this wonderful cookbook, more of a reflection on my extreme laziness). I then moved on to Bite Me that I’ll admit I was originally attracted to because of the title. Some recipes almost got me going but then I decided I would instead make sloppy joe’s with Hawaiian sweet bread and Kula onions for the millionth time and my challenge item would be a new cocktail (It’s allowed! I’m the one who made up the rules. If I want to throw a shot in a cup of Coke and call it a new menu item, so be it).
That night, I met my friend Wendy for dinner at Three’s Bar & Grill in Kihei. We got to sit outside on the lanai with holiday lit trees. It was relaxing and fun to catch up. I had the opakapaka special with goat cheese and hamakua mushrooms (yum…) while Wen had the chicken roulade.
On Sunday morning, I headed to Paia Town with the BF in tow to shoot photos for a Maui shopping travel post I’m working on (my first guest blogging gig, woo hoo!). Had the most wonderful Thai latte at Anthony’s to wake me up.
On the way back into town, we stopped at Lighthaus Camera so I could get some filters to protect my lens (beginning digital photography starts next week, so excited).
Then we headed to Lahaina (I was surprised he agreed to hop on this all day road trip retail train but was grateful for the company). We hit front street first, bought a few things at Maui Built and admired the gorgeous boards.
Then, it was off to Whalers’ Village (a mall next to one of the prettiest beaches, what could be better than that?). Was described as a “young woman”…long story but just had to throw that in because it totally made my day. Went to Sephora and splurged on a graffiti hello kitty compact and a traffic stopper copper glitter polish (looks more rose gold to me…which I love).
Hungry and tired, we headed home but made sure to stop at Leoda’s in Olowalu to see what all the pie fuss is about. I can’t say any more because I don’t want to spoil the suspense and have to write SPOILER ALERT since I’ll be posting on our Leoda’s experience later this week.
Finally, back home to Kihei, where the heart is and where every dog wags their tail at the mere sight of you or at the sound of your car alarm (what would Pavlov have to say about that?). Finished up some chores, did some grocery shopping and sat out in the front with the furgirls listening to the birds chirp in the mango tree.
How was your weekend?
