On a recent day off I spent the morning in Lahaina, browsing Maui’s sole bookstore, Barnes & Noble, followed by window shopping on Front Street. As the early afternoon approached, I continued to 505 Front Street to dine at the top of my “must eat” list, Pacific’O Restaurant. My must eat list is my dining bucket list, I’m slowly but surely eating my way across the Valley Isle.
Pacific’O is an open air space with a gorgeous view. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well as great bar seating.
I started off with the Roasted Maui Onion Goat Cheese Salad topped off with a smoked tomato dressing. The goat cheese is from the Big Island and the greens from O’o Farm in Kula. This is one of the best salad plates I’ve ever had. Fresh and a wonderful combination of flavors.
I followed up with an ono pupu, the Shrimp Wontons. Prawn and basil won tons with a sweet and sour sauce and a pineapple Hawaiian salsa.
Pacific’O has a relaxed atmosphere. Any seat in the house feels like outdoor seating. There were quite a few patrons sitting at the bar that afternoon enjoying cocktails and small plates. I’ll definitely be back, hopefully with a friend, so I can try more dishes.
The owners of Pacific’O and I’O started O’o Farm in Kula in 2000. Their long term goal is for their restaurants to be produce sufficient. Almost 100% of the greens and herb are from O’o Farm.
