I jetted off to Vegas for my Baldwin High School class reunion this past weekend and had a blast! As I was awaiting my connecting flight in San Francisco, my classmates began the festivities with dinner at Wo Fat on Thursday night. Friday night was spent bowling at The New Orleans Hotel & Casino, followed by a seafood buffet dinner. Saturday started with a brunch buffet (it’s all about the grinds, ya know…) followed by go cart racing and cheering on the Warriors football team. In between, we found time to gamble, dance, shop, have a few drinks, see a show and chill out at the pool. Kui Aipa even brought along his yearbook (which suprisingly still looked brand new) so we could reminisce about the fun times we shared and how young we all looked back in the day.
Even though we have all taken different paths in life, the feeling of camaraderie was present the entire weekend as we created new memories together. A few days of hugs, laughter and friendship was just what I needed.
Here’s a quick look back at 1986…
Ronald Reagan was in the White House while George Ariyoshi was at Washington Place
The country watched in horror as the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart after launch
Martina Navratilova & Boris Becker won on the grass at Wimbledon
Run DMC, The Beastie Boys and Club Nouveau topped the charts
Our tvs were tuned to The Cosby Show and Dynasty
Tom Cruise had us at Top Gun and Matthew Broderick made us laugh with the ultimate cutting school adventure, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Shoulder pads, plaid surfer shorts, Chic tulip leg jeans, Raisin bikinis and silk obi belts filled our closets.
We shopped at Shirokiya for sushi and Liberty House for the latest fashions.
