I think I may have found a way to have my house full of modern and midcentury furniture…Amazing Miniatures…
I love to browse photography sites like Flickr for interior design shots and occasionally I come across a well designed room which looks great but something seems a little off, there’s just something different about it. Upon closer examination I realize the room is in a dollhouse! Dollhouse hobbyists are going strong, sharing their passion online via sites like Flickr or thru blogs.
Many dollhouses and miniatures available on the market appeal to the traditional or victorian enthusiast. Just a few years ago, a google search for modern miniatures would’ve yielded very few results. I was so excited to find this is no longer the case as a growing community of modern and midcentury miniaturists is emerging. Ann Nguyen of Amazing Miniatures is well…truly amazing. Her pieces are inspired by current designs like the Ikea Vika desk or midcentury classics like the Anne Jacobsen Series 7 chair or the Barcelona chair.
She also has these gorgeous miniature origami cranes and even a shiny acrylic rhino head. Ann is constantly brainstorming new ideas which she shares on her blog, Amazing Miniatures, and sells her mini masterpieces via her Etsy shop.
The New York Times recently ran an excellent article by J. Courtney Sullivan where she explains how her childhood hobby is now her adult home design fantasy camp.
Another modern miniature blog I love is Call of the Small.
