MauiShopGirl Gift Guide for Her, The JetSetter

by Tania Ginoza on December 2, 2013 · 18 comments

As I now hop on a jet plane to holo holo Honolulu on a regular basis, I got to thinking, what would a frequent flyer love to see under her tree on Christmas day? Here’s my picks for the frequent flyer or girl who enjoys a weekend getaway.

The Large Planetes Tote by Longchamp

I have this beauty and absolutely adore it. I prefer the Planetes to its popular foldable sister, the Le Pliage. I sold several of my Le Pliage, including a vintage piece, to get this style and I have no regrets. The Planetes feels and looks luxurious with comfy leather handles but is also practical for travel with a durable and lightweight nylon body. It looks just as good empty as it does stuffed. It also has a wide opening and zippered top and fits easily under the seat. There are no interior pockets, which I prefer as I pack all my essentials in colorful pouches and a small crossbody bag. No pockets keep the interior roomy and the bag light. Upon reaching your fabulous destination, you can use it as a day bag for shopping and sightseeing or poolside. It also makes a great everyday commute bag. Currently available at Nordstrom for $180.

The Mophie Juice Pack Battery

I’m all about apps. Many of us now use apps to find our way, sell our wardrobe, journal, edit photos, keep in touch with loved ones and stay organized. The only problem with apps? They suck the life out of your battery. The last thing a jetsetter needs on a trip is a dead phone. Enter the mophie, the juice pack battery case. It’s both a hard case a charger for your phone. Once your battery says good night, you just flip a switch and the mophie brings it back to a full charge. Available in many tempting colors and for the iPhone (5s& 4s) and various Samsung models. They also carry POWERful (get it?!) products for the iPod and iPad. My mophie has served me well from DC to Vegas to Hawaii nei. Available at MacNet on Maui or from Mophie.

Vinacafe Instant Coffee Mix Packs

Vietamese coffee, yummy, sweet, creamy, instant…need I say more? All you need is hot water, a cup and a pack (or two) of Vinacafe and you’ll be sipping pretty while planning your vacay day itinerary in your jammies in the comfort of your hotel room. Available at Amazon.

La LOOP Eyewear Accessory

I wear contacts but on longer international trips I have worn my glasses on the plane to give my peepers a break from the dry airplane environment. I’d fall asleep with one earpiece tucked into the neck of my T only to wake up later and discover my very costly prescription had fallen on the ground. La Loop offers a modern and fashionable version of the librarian drugstore spectacles chain. La LOOP uses a patented hinge on the circle loop that holds the glasses in place and keeps it lying flat. La LOOP is also handy for sunnies and readers too. I love the version pictured (HINT), the small ivory tortoise link chain for $140 at La LOOP. They carry a style for everyone including a sportier version for $25.

Le Sport Sac 18″ Rolling Carryon

This is the carryon I coveted before my summer DC trip but I decided to be frugal (for once) and use the mint Delsey I’ve had forever. My Delsey broke in the San Francisco airport, the first of my two layovers on route to our nation’s capital. I did buy a new carryon in DC but unfortunately couldn’t find the Le Sport Sac and bought a different brand. So I’m still lurking and drooling over this piece of luggage from afar. I do have a Le Sport Sac large rolling suitcase that I scored at Ross for a song several years ago and it’s easy to clean, light and strong. It also makes me cheerful. The carryon size would be the perfect companion to the check-in version or as the perfect solo luggage for the minimal traveler. $250 from Le Sport Sac.

Mini Belkin Surge Protector with USB Charger

This is the perfect stocking stuff for the mobile tech lover. It has three AC outlets and two powered USB outlets. It brings an end to hauling multiple apple USB docks. You can charge multiple devices at once and at one outlet. The Belkin is tiny and easily fits into a purse/bag pocket. I’m not the first blogger or podcaster to rave about the Belkin and I definitely won’t be the last. $24.99 at Belkin.

Kind Snacks

Kind snacks are a lifesaver for me. I get light headed easily due to low blood pressure and I’m allergic to wheat. Keeping a Kind bar or two in my bag on a long trip ensures I’ll always have something filling to eat in case wheat free options are not available. Kind bars are gluten free and have enough protein to keep a on-route traveler satisfied. Available at Whole Foods and other grocers.

olloclip

The olloclip debuted with a 3 in 1 iPhone camera lens attachment; a fisheye, wide angle and macro lens. They now have a 4 in 1 option that has 2 macro choices. All the lens connect together for storage and can be clipped onto an iPhone to take shots you never would imagine possible on a mobile phone. One of my favorite Maui photographers/artists, Shane Robinson, turned me onto the olloclip. He uses it for his fine art photography. They say the best camera is the one you have with you! It also comes with a little pouch for storage. Available at olloclip.

Michael Lauren Ace Stripe Wide Leg Pant

Michael Lauren is the brother line to Lauren Moshi. Brother and sister duo, Michael and Lauren Moshi, have designed their ML line to fill the need for versatile modern basic pieces. The pieces are super comfy and have a flattering drape with no unfortunate clinginess. The wide leg pant feels like loungewear but can also be worn out. It’s perfect for travel as it can double as sleepwear with a cami but also serve as a pant on the plane when paired with a hoody or sweater. It folds up to practically nothing. I’ve been a fan of Lauren Moshi for years. ML has the same California casual vibe that mixes well with other contemporary lines. It’s also made with similar fabric as Lauren Moshi, which is super soft and of good quality. $79 at Lauren Moshi.

I was curious about the collapsible roller bag; will talk to IRL about that. Safe travels! I leave tonight for CA- five-day trip. Plus, I am on Oahu once a month – maybe we can coordinate schedules? I will be there Dec 11-14.

I was there at the same time Rox (well, the 13th through the 15th). Will probably head back in February too.

I am interested in touching the Planetes version now.

I like the Pliage even with its flimsy nylon.. because it folds up and is super light.. although I am sure the Planetes is light too.. I wonder how much more substantial it feels.

It feels really great to the touch and of good quality, both the body and the trim. Nordstrom has a ton of reviews on the Planates if you’d like to check it out. One of my favorite bags now.

I’ve heard good things about the Olio clip! I’d also add a outlet adapter if one travels overseas a lot. :)

You’d like it Lisa!

Those pants are beyond comfy looking…would love to be wearing them right now :)

I have them! In a different print and yes, they are super comfy. I’ve worn them as sleep pants or out too. I know a seller on postmark who sells Michael Lauren samples from time to time so I tried them out and love them.

Admittedly, I really like the ollo clip, but I never purchased one. I really don’t know why. I was at Shane’s house when he showed off his mad micro-photographic talents using one.

I guess I should put it on my own Santa list this year :)

The only thing is it’s so tiny. I need to relocate it to a little colored jewelry pouch because I’m always worried I’m going to lose it (it comes in a small black drawstring bag).

Shane is amazing. I’m pretty sure no one will be purchasing my iPhone shots anytime soon.
