Happy New Year! 2013 has flown by. I feel like I blinked and bam! It was over.

To celebrate the new year, I’d like to extend a huge mahalo to all of you for taking the time to visit MauiShopGirl and host my very own version of fukubukuro.

Fukubukuro is a popular New Year custom for Japanese retailers. The merchants fill grab bags with an assortment of lovely products with a retail price of at least twice the price of the mystery bag.

I’m taking my fukubukuro one step further and giving it away for free for one lucky reader. My bag will be filled with a few of my favorite Maui product picks. It will contain at least one food item, one personal care item and one apparel or accessory piece. The retail value of the bag contents will exceed $50. The only thing I ask of you is you leave a comment below and share a bit of your 2013 with us. It could be an accomplishment, a happy event, a life changing moment…anything you wish to share.

The winner will be randomly drawn and announced on January 10th. January 9th, 2014 is the final day to enter. Very sorry international friends but this giveaway is open to those with a US mailing address only. Mystery bag will be mailed on January 13th via Priority Mail.

If you haven’t commented here before, don’t fret if you don’t see your comment right away. I have my settings set to require approval for new commenters so those nasty spammers don’t get all spammy on us.

If fukubukuro sounds right up your shopping alley, check out Ala Moana shopping center’s fukubukuro event tomorrow.  Participating merchants and hours here.

Hello Tania my faraway friend. So glad to see you pop back up on the radar. With a give away no less. And you already know what I’m going to say about my 2013. The year that I got lucky after my husband got lucky and had a baby at 46. I never ever seem to win giveaways but I won the baby lottery.
Happy New Year Honey from the East Coast Folks.
Love,
Shalagh

Happy New Year! 2013 was a challenging year! I stopped working to finish school. 2014 I will officially be teaching elementary school though. Being less one income in the family this year with three boys was rough, but we did it and I’m just about finished!! I’m very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at home and focus on schooling. !!

Hi Tania!
What a year this has been – I’ve been challenged in many ways – mostly through personal relationships, and yet is has paid off in so many ways. Being willing to let things that I don’t like also shine a light on the new paths they are creating has been my #1 insight – and one that will deepen and continue to bear fruit!

Love the changes you have made on your blog as well, and I continue to enjoy your natural, open style of writing and letting me into your life. Happy 2014!

Hi! 2013 is the year I turned 50 and went to Ireland to celebrate. Two things that amaze me.

Hi. I’m new to this blog, but looking forward to reading more.

2013 was a special year for me because it was the year I first visited Hawai’i. I know, I know — sounds silly. I was hired to work in Honolulu for a few weeks, but didn’t expect to fall in love with Hawai’i. I’m not really a beach person, so I figured it would just be a nice place to work for a while.

I was shocked to discover that Hawai’i feels like home! And that I didn’t have a single migraine while I was there.

Now my husband and I are hoping to find a way to move there some day.

Anyway… It’s nice to meet you.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I’m excited to find you via My Own Maui on Facebook. I looked through some of your posts, and look forwarding to reading many more.
My 2013 was consisted of working on our home, my Husband’s shoulder surgery, wonderful times with Family & Friends, many beautiful memories made, much joy, beginning to be a Volunteer at our local Hospital, and……. our December flights/trip to Maui cancelled due to ice and winter weather. (Remember the people being stranded at the Dallas Fort a worth airport?) We plan to make up for lost time on the beautiful Island of Maui this year. The trip is already booked!

You’re so sweet, dear! I hope to win, of course :). My stand out moment of the year has to be the arrival of Baby O. But potty training a 3 yr old and having an awesome 3 yo is right up there too!

Happy New Years to come. I love this website. It let’s me unwind after finishing the daily grind. I am greatful that my new Orleans saints are in the playoffs. Our NFL team meao much to our city because even years after hurricane Katrina business is still slow an when they win, business is good. 2013 was an important year for me because I was able to actually successfully complete a short-term job for the first time since sustaining a traumatic brain injury about 5 years ago. I lost the ability to read when I hit my head in an accident, and had to leave my job as a child advocate.
I’ve been working very hard since then to relearn how to read, and I’ve improved enough to be able to do some work, finally.

Fingers crossed for an even better 2014.

Yay! I’m hesitant to enter because I’m already wondering where our kids’ gifts are gonna go, but I know whatever you choose is gonna be good, so I gotta try. This year has two major highlights for me: Having baby #2, and getting a mention in Honolulu Magazine. It was so great to end the year on a high note and has got me excited to make 2014 even better.

happy new year!! 2013 was a whirlwind. my husband and i moved cross country from nyc to sf in order to (hopefully) have a little bit better work/life balance. he also opted to change careers and is basically starting back at the bottom at 32. lots of challenges but nothing that we didnt purposely choose and nothing to complain about! also met some nice ladies through PM (yourself included!) hopefully we cross paths (in person) in 2014!

The majority of my 2013 was spent in nursing school. I got to do a lot of firsts like starting my first IV successfully and I got to see both a natural birth and a c-section and I made up my mind that I was put on this earth for the purpose of being a labor and delivery nurse :). Thank you so much for the giveaway and here is to an awesome 2014 for all!!!

2013 was odd for me. It was a good year but I did a lot of moving, got robbed a couple times and started homeschooling my son. It seemed the whole year was about lessons I learned but I think I am better for it. Thanks a bunch!

2013 was filled with tragedy and triumph. I was well on my way to moving back to Hawaii, and ended up in Washington. My husband deployed, and we almost lost him, all the while the military never contacted nor supported us during this time. On the flip side, I became stronger in ways never thought possible, and I checked off many things on my bucket list. Although, 2013 was a blast, 2014, my family will be reunited, finally, kinda.

Happy New Year!!!
