I keep a pack of shipping tags from the office supply store on hand at all times. You can score 100 for less than 5 smackers and the fun never stops.
Ten things to do with the humble shipping tag:
1. List the contents of storage boxes, baskets or drawers in the closet or pantry.
2. Get your origami on (I know you want to) and make unique gift tags with a personal touch.
3. Do you prefer fabric to paper? Try this lovely tag idea via Decor8 with pretty textile scraps and washi tape.
4. Fill a mason jar with the dry ingredients for simple homemade cookies. Print out and glue the recipe to the card. Replace string with striped baker’s twine and tie around the jar. Gift to your favorite cookie monster.
5. For a shower or dinner party, print or use those calligraphy skills to write each guest’s name on a tag. Tie around the stem of their glass, teacup handle, hashi (chopsticks) or napkin as a place card.
6. Create a piece of mini art with paint or ink on your tag, replace the string with a strip of pretty fabric or ribbon and use as a bookmark.
7. Stamp a letter on each tag, remove the string and attach to twine with clothespins for an easy-peasy Happy Birthday banner.
8. Create save the date or VIP tickets for your next party.
9. Add a “words to live by” reminder and pin to your desk cork board or place in a single photo clip.
10. Use as a visual reminder – as a placeholder on a bookshelf listing the name of the borrower, on your steering wheel with a reminder to fill your tank or on a clothes hanger with repair/alteration notes.

Not a bad way to spend a fiver
I have these tags at home. I think in larger manilla and also in red. I’ve used them as gift name tags, but haven’t whipped them out in a while. Maybe journaling cards for an album I’m making

I’ve seen quite a few blogs that feature inventory tags for narrative in scrapbook (it even as a convenient arrow shape). It looks lovely, it would be very nice in an album.
Ok I need to get me some of these. I’ve been trying to figure out how to label some canvas bins I have, and while I know this somewhere in my brain, you reminded me! I may also use these for mason jars I just bought. Thanks for this!
They are so handy! I have a labelmaker too but I like that these tags are so easy to switch out and work well with storage that you don’t want to stick a label on, like baskets.
