So kiss me and smile for me ~John Denver

Hawaiian Air

“Leaving on a jet plane” will always be one of my favorite songs. The melody and lyrics never fail to speak to me, bringing a flood of memories of loved ones far away or no longer in my life. It was playing in my head as I boarded a Maui bound flight, leaving behind friends and family on Oahu. Written before I was born in 1966 by John Denver, it was a #1 hit for Peter, Paul and Mary. My favorite renditions are by Chantal Kreviazuk from the movie Armageddon and Sophie Barker’s cover.

OMG, I sing the exact same song too. Except my version is the Mos Def, “Leaving on a Jet Plane”.

Another OMG, I always think of Ben Affleck holding Liv Tyler in the air, while he is sing, too. It’s so weird that we think of similar things while flying. Weird, but cool at the same time. I guess GENIUSES does think alike. ;)

I’ll check that one out! I think we’re both very introspective when flying :-)

Great pic and great song! I snapped my pic in a very cool restaurant by my house. We were enjoying after dinner drinks, and I noted how cool the lighting was!

I always notice lighting when out to eat and in shops. (you had me at great lighting!) My favorite place here has specialty sushi, great martinis and these big paper lantern globes hangining from an industrial ceiling. I’ll hop over to AnotherJennifer tonight.

beautiful! love the fade to white!

Tania Ginoza January 24, 2013

Mahalo Ann. I created the fade to white using the matte frame in ipiccy. Since my picture was a little out of focus, I tried to work with it and make it a bit dreamy.

Laurie January 23, 2013

Love your photograph. Very pretty which I imagine can be hard to make a jet pretty!

Tania Ginoza January 24, 2013

Thanks Laurie! It is an older picture that I took with my point and shoot. One day I’ll try to capture the planes coming with a dslr. In Kahului, the opportunity is there to shoot the jets as their coming in for a landing. It’s quite normal to be sitting at stoplight and see the plan fly past not too high off the ground.

Love the soft white edges of the photo!

Nice photo, Tania. I always thought it was pretty ironic/poetic that John Denver died in a plane crash.

Oh yes, that thought makes me teary.
