I’m so excited about my fabric pushpins from Anthropologie, especially jumbled up in this love/wish/hope/dream bowl made by MauiDiveGirl.
I’ve never baked a cake in my life but can never resist a pretty cake platter. Lucky for me, I’m a blogger and they come in handy as a display prop for photos. Also a lovely way to present cupcakes or finger foods.
Whenever I see an article online about one use appliances being a waste of money and space, the Japanese Maui girl in me always feels more than a bit insulted when a rice cooker is included. For many a local Asian or Polynesian family in Hawaii, a rice cooker is one of our most used and essential kitchen appliances. We enjoy rice with omelets, chili, steak and fish. We take it to the beach in the form of a musubi or pour ocha over it and top with furikake and salmon when we’re not feeling well. Since I’ve downsized to smaller space living, I’ve also downsized my kitchen items. I have just a three cup rice cooker now and a mini salad spinner. My Zojirushi rice cooker is wonderful, it’s beautiful, plays a little song when the rice is done and the rice is perfect each and every time (it is also available in larger sizes if you have a larger family to feed).
I found this Quicksilver duvet cover in the teen section of Macy’s home. Loved the black and white photography surfer lifestyle print.
My favorite part of the sunset is right when the sun is at half mast, right before it drops.
I prefer an industrial look and heavy weight for my desk supplies like this swingline stapler and black-blum tape dispenser.

Totally agree with you on the rice cooker, tho you have found MANY more fun uses than me. I just cook rice
. If you make rice all the time, it’s a MUST! But if you only use it once in a while, it’s like a breadmaker or deep fryer to me — just takes up space in the basement. Have a good weekend!
I think you can cook hot cereal in it too but haven’t tried it but there is a setting. My previous rice cooker had a steamer tray insert that was so cool. I’d put sliced mushrooms, onions and minced garlic in it and steam up a yummy, healthy side dish at the same time the rice was cooking.
You have a good weekend too!
So funny, I was thinking about ordering a cake platter for just that reason! And I thought your rice cooker was a bread machine which reminded me to get mine out over the weekend. Happy Friday, dear!
Oh…can’t wait to see what kind of bread you make, your cooking is always so beautiful and mouthwatering.
That is a duvet cover? Very cool!!!
I think I feel about my blender how you feel about your rice cooker.
I wish I had a heavy duty stapler and maybe a good OLD electric pencil sharpener!
I love heavy old school staplers but am addicted to mechanical pencils made in Japan.
I just got a new blender and am starting to feel the love…
I want a cake platter, too, now!!! You can cook steel cut oatmeal in a rice cooker. Which is great, because cooking them the right way takes forever. I wish mine sang a song, too:(.
that cake platter was so cheap, from pier one. macy’s martha stewart’s got nice ones too and etsy has some beautiful ones (sometimes a bit more since handmade but so pretty). imma gonna try the oatmeal!
HAHA @ the rice cooker. Ain’t that the truth! My rice cooker (which is super old) is my frienemy. I love the rice cooker that cooks me my rice, but I hate what rice does to my body. Hence, frienemy. LOL
We all eat less rice now I think than we used to when we were growing up for the frienemy reason. I usually stick to 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup now, hence the small size suits me just fine. The only time I wish I had a bigger cooker is when I’m making spam musubi to take somewhere.
I love cake stands! I love the bell jar type lids that go on them. I have a green glass cake stand and keep hoping someone around here is going to remember I want a lid on of these days and gift me one!
Our family needs a rice cooker. I do oven baked rice, brown or white, and it’s wonderful because it’s all in the oven so no stove mess, and it’s delicious. But you have to boil water first, add a little salt and oil, and bake for an hour, so it’s surely not as streamlined as using a rice cooker. One day I’ll get around to getting one!
I never thought to bake it! I went a year or two out of college without a rice cooker (or a tv…). I lived in a small studio apt, hardly home (always working and business travel) and barely made ends meet. When I did cook rice it was on the stove and I could never get it to come out right. But baking it would be tough if the entree needed to be baked too (I just have one oven, actually a convection microwave). My 3 cup rice cooker is more than enough and it doesn’t take up too much room (I tuck it away in the cabinet), it might be just the thing for you.
I don’t have any bell jar lids yet but love those!
I need a rice cooker stat! We haven’t had one in a while…so missing it!
The zojirushi is one of the more expensive ones but so easy to clean & perfect rice Sarah! It doesn’t spill yucky white stuff over the top like the old ones. Highly recommend! I bought mine at target (I think, not sure) but I’ve seen the larger version at Macys, I think Amazon carries all the sizes including the smaller one I have which might even be enough for your family (3 cups is the uncooked measurement, a full pot lasts me and the a big eater BF several meals). Btw, I don’t get a commission (I’m totally selling it, aren’t I?) ! http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-NS-LAC05XA-Cooker-Warmer-Stainless/dp/B000G30ESY
I also thought the rice cooker was a bread maker.
I would love a rice cooker with a steamer basket!
I think the steamer basket cooker was a zojirushi too (I kind of have a thing about zojirushi). But I haven’t seen a similar one lately.
